As a trained family therapist I support families to identify strengths and weaknesses, improve communication and problem-solving skills, and develop a stronger sense of cohesion and support.
Child and adolescent counseling services are designed to help children and young people overcome a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, behavioral issues, and more. Evidence-based techniques are used to help children and teens develop coping skills, improve self-esteem, and achieve greater success in school and other areas of life.
Groups can provide support and perspective—and often suggestions and models for change—to individuals struggling on their own. Group counselling can be helpful both as a sole form of therapy and when used as a supplement to individual therapy. Most groups meet regularly, once or twice a week in session that last from 1 to 2 hours.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy technique that helps people heal from the symptoms and emotional distress caused by traumatic experiences. The therapy aims to promote the mind’s natural healing capacity using bilateral stimulation and guided processing of traumatic memories. Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a short-term treatment designed to help young children aged 3 to 7 with an externalizing behavior problem 1. PCIT works with parents to build confidence and their ability to reduce children’s disruptive behaviors through behavior management strategies and positive reinforcement. The therapy aims to improve the quality of the parent-child relationship and child compliance. Evidence shows that PCIT was effective in improving child mental health/behavior and parenting skills.
DBT helps people who have trouble managing their emotions to change unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving and to accept who they are. The therapy teaches skills to build a ‘life worth living’ and involves acceptance and change.
Incredible Years Parenting Program is an evidence-based early intervention program designed to strengthen parenting skills and reduce child problem behaviors. The program offers a variety of evidence-based early intervention programs for parents, teachers, early childhood educators, counsellors, and other professionals who work with children ages 0-12. The Incredible Years Parenting Programs are categorized based on age and customized to suit the child’s developmental stage. The program aims to improve children’s academic, social, and emotional abilities while decreasing behavioral issues. The Incredible Years Parenting Training (IYPT) program is a group-based intervention designed to strengthen parenting skills and reduce child problem behaviors. The program is backed by over 40 years of research and has been implemented within a rich variety of cultural traditions in over twenty countries.
